Christ the Savior Orthodox plans Easter week events

Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, which follows a different calendar than most Western churches, will celebrate Easter next weekend. This week the church will host several Holy Week services and activities.

There will be a Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Sunday in celebration of Palm Sunday, followed by an outdoor procession with candles and palms. There will be services at 6:30 p.m. each day during Holy Week. The service on Thursday will be preceded by a foot washing service at 6. There also will be a special Vespers service at 1 p.m. Friday to mark Jesus’ removal from the cross.

Easter will be celebrated during an 11 p.m. service next Saturday. A special potluck meal will follow the service.

No talent? No problem.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host its annual Talent/Untalent Show at 6 p.m. April 27. Brave souls who have already signed up include a magician, musicians, singers and a bagpipe player. All performers are welcome and should RSVP by calling 926-7966.

The performances will be preceded by a potluck dinner at 5. The church is at 2511 S. Pines Road.

Church breakfast

The men of Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will host a pancake breakfast Sunday from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. The meal is a fundraiser for the 2008 Crop Hunger Walk, which raises money that is donated to local food banks and Meals on Wheels. The church is at 115 N. Raymond Road.

Ladies Spring Brunch

The Pasadena Park Nazarene Church, 8822 E. Upriver Drive, will host a brunch for the ladies of the community at 10 a.m. next Saturday. The event will include a performance by the Yakima-based musical group “For Eternity.” The cost is $10 per person. Call the church at 926-5258 to register or for more information.

Women’s dinner

The Presbyterian Women’s Association at Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will host its Women’s Spring Dinner at 5:30 p.m. next Saturday. The guest speaker will be local gardener and write Pat Munts. All women are invited to attend.

The cost is $10. Call the church at 924-2350 to register.

Used book sale

Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 S. Schafer Road, will host its sixth annual used book sale next Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be CD’s, DVD’s and other items available. Proceeds will benefit Lutheran Community Services.
