Softball

Rachel Head’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning for Lewis and Clark ruined Sam Skillingstad’s bid for another perfect game, but the Shadle Park senior collected her 16th win with a 9-0 triumph over the Tigers at Hart Field on Monday. Skillingstad recorded 20 of the 21 outs in the seven-inning game on strike outs. China Frost had five hits and Allie Burger four to lead Shadle’s 20-hit attack.

Jordan Levenseller had a three-run single in a six-run first inning in the first game and drove in two runs in the second game to lead Pullman to a 12-3, 11-0 sweep of a Great Northern League doubleheader at Medical Lake. Amy Sterk also drove in two runs in the second game for Pullman and Erica Hanson pitched a two-hitter.

Baseball

Michael Scourey’s two-run single highlighted a three-run top of the seventh inning for Pullman that enabled the Greyhounds to overcome Medical Lake 8-6 in the second game and earn a split of the Great Northern League doubleheader at Medical Lake. Jamie Fertakis had a solo home run and Cody Weber a two-run triple in a four-run second inning for Pullman. Chris Culnone accounted five of Medical Lake’s runs with a grand slam in the fourth inning and an RBI single. Medical Lake won the opener 7-1 on T.J. Grover’s four-hit pitching. He struck out seven and walked four.

“A nine-run fourth inning, in which Steve Welton contributed two hits, was all the offense Coeur d’Alene needed in a 9-1 Inland Empire League win over visiting Sandpoint. Devin Fox was 2 for 3 with four RBIs for the Vikings. Chris Hawkins was 3 for 3 with a double for Sandpoint.

“A seven-run second inning was the difference as Newport (8-9, 7-7 Northeast A League) ended Freeman’s perfect season with a 7-4 victory over the visiting Scotties (14-1, 13-1) in the first game of a makeup doubleheader. Chris Vantuyl struck out 10 in collecting the victory as the Grizzlies overcame four errors. Freeman won the second game 7-1 as Tyler Ford pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10.

Boys golf

Senior Erick Henderson of Mead shot a 3-under-par 69 to claim medalist honors and lead the Panthers to victory in the Inland Empire Invitational at Spokane Country Club. Chris Williams of Moscow was a stroke back in second. Mead had a 305-309 margin over runner-up Lewis and Clark in the 24-team competition. LC’s Paul Heiskell was third at 74.

Soccer

Goals by Matt Ramich and Alex Tripp two minutes apart late in the first half started Colville on the way to a 4-1 Great Northern League win at Chewelah. Leo Torres and John Wilson scored in the second half for the Indians. Sam Fish ruined a shutout bid for Colville’s Ben Kersey with a goal at the 72-minute mark for Chewelah.
