Gregg lands job with Warner Pacific

Freeman girls basketball coach Matt Gregg has resigned to become the women’s coach at Warner Pacific, an NAIA college in Portland.

Gregg, who teaches at Post Falls Middle School, was Freeman’s girls coach for the past five years, compiling a 103-24 record and placing in the top five three times at the State 1A tournament, including second place in 2005.

For several years he coached tennis and golf and was a longtime Freeman boys basketball assistant. He also coaches at Post Falls schools.

“Coaching at the college level has been a dream of mine since I started coaching high school 13 years ago,” Gregg said in a Warner Pacific press release.

The Knights compete in the 10-school Cascade College Conference in NAIA Division II. Warner Pacific last year was 6-23 under coach Kathy Steding, who resigned to join the coaching staff of a new WNBA franchise in Atlanta.

“He’s done a great job for us,” Freeman athletic director Brian Parisotto said of Gregg. “But when you’re offered a college job, there’s not much we can do. We wish him well.”

Freeman has posted the job and last week completed interviews for a new boys coach to replace interim Greg Hannan. Parisotto said the field has been narrowed to two and a decision could be made by the school board next week.
