WSP says driver on I-90 hit 127 mph
Interstate 90 looked more like a German autobahn Tuesday as an unlicensed driver sped past state troopers in Spokane Valley at nearly 130 mph.
The driver, identified as 40-year-old David P. Davisson, was apprehended after a predawn chase that took authorities through the Valley, downtown Spokane and parts of the West Plains before the fleeing car crashed at Eighth Avenue and Division Street, according to the Washington State Patrol. Davisson faces charges of felony eluding and driving with a suspended license.
Troopers were alerted about 1:19 a.m. by a caller reporting a speeding car being driven erratically along the freeway near the Argonne exit.
“We just happened to have a trooper in that area in an unmarked car,” Trooper Mark Baker said. “The trooper clocked the driver going 127 mph.”
The trooper attempted to stop the speeding car, but the driver fled westbound and then spun out his vehicle near the Sprague Avenue exit. The driver again sped westbound, and the pursuit went through downtown Spokane before the driver exited at U.S. Highway 2 near Spokane International Airport.
The driver turned around and got back on I-90 heading east, Baker said. He exited at Division Street and turned south. He hit a curb and his car became disabled at Eighth Avenue and Division Street. Authorities found drug paraphernalia in the car.
“We appreciate the citizen who called 911, and we are glad nobody got hurt,” Baker said. “We got a dangerous driver off the roadway. We are happy about that.”
