Indians 5, Twins 1: At Minneapolis, Paul Byrd tossed seven sharp innings to win his third straight start and Kelly Shoppach hit a two-run homer to lead Cleveland to a victory over Minnesota. Byrd allowed one run and six hits. He has allowed just five runs in his last four starts.

Yankees 8, Angels 2: At New York, Mike Mussina retired the final 17 batters he faced in seven solid innings, Jose Molina hit one of the Yankees’ four home runs and New York snapped Los Angeles’ five-game winning streak.

Rays 9, Tigers 3: At St. Petersburg, Fla., rookie Evan Longoria homered and drove in three runs and right-hander Andy Sonnanstine won for the first time in nearly a month as Tampa Bay held on to its three-game lead in the East with a victory over Detroit.

Red Sox 12, Athletics 2: At Boston, Jason Bay hit his first home run with the Red Sox, Kevin Youkilis added a pair of two-run homers and Boston cruised to a victory over Oakland. Bay finished 1 for 4 and has reached base safely in six of his first 11 at-bats with the Red Sox.

Royals 9, White Sox 7: At Kansas City, Mo., Jose Guillen and Billy Butler both homered off an ineffective Mark Buehrle and Esteban German had a two-run triple to lead the Royals to a win over Chicago.

Blue Jays 6, Rangers 4: At Arlington, Texas, Rod Barajas and Scott Rolen each had two-run doubles in the sixth inning, helping Toronto rally to a victory over Texas. A.J. Burnett allowed four runs in 52/3 innings to win his third consecutive start. B.J. Ryan pitched a scoreless inning to earn his 21st save in 24 chances.
