Base opens doors for Skyfest

Skyfest 2008 is this weekend at Fairchild Air Force Base, with free public admission to events culminating with a performance by the Navy Blue Angels.

The base is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the air show is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the Blue Angels finale starting about 3:10 p.m.

Here’s a partial list of the aerial performances Saturday and Sunday:

Army Golden Knights parachute team; L-39 Firecat aerobatic act; UH-1N Huey search and rescue; C-17 Globemaster III; Felts Warbirds; F-15 Eagle; X-300 aerobatic act; MiG Fury Fighters dogfight; KC-135R Stratotanker; F-22 Raptor demo; Cascade Warbirds; T-33 semi-aerobatic act; and the Navy Blue Angels.

Rathdrum

Annual Twin Lakes yard sale Saturday

The Twin Lakes Village Golf Course Ladies Activities Committee will host their annual Twin Lakes Yard Sale on Saturday, to benefit local Rathdrum high school seniors who are college-bound, in the form of scholarships. The event will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The sale will be held in the parking lot of the Trading Post at Highway 41, four miles north of the IGA Grocery Store in Rathdrum.

Calvary Rathdrum hosting children’s choir

Calvary Rathdrum, 15095 McCartney St., will host the India Children’s Choir on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. The choir is made up of 22 children, ages 9-12. The concert is part of the choir’s 10-month tour of the U.S.

Coeur d’Alene

Experience Works open house today

The Coeur d’Alene Experience Works staff will hold an open house today, from 2 to 4 p.m., to celebrate the opening of their new office. The new office is at the Harding Family Center, 411 N. 15th St. The open house will be held in the gymnasium. An orientation will be from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.

Experience Works helps low-income seniors look for work and obtain the training they need to find jobs in their communities.

Artwalk Friday in downtown CdA

The Coeur d’Alene Arts and Culture Alliance will host the second annual Artwalk in downtown Coeur d’Alene, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

Ten galleries will host opening receptions with the opportunity to meet the artists, listen to live music and see newly arrived works of art.

Coeur d’Alene Galleries is featuring Texas artist Martin Grelle.

The event is free and open to the public.

Clinics offer spay/neutering

Concerned People for Animals Inc., an all volunteer nonprofit animal welfare organization, is offering to spay/neuter cats for $20 and dogs for $30.

The program was created for pet owners who require financial assistance.

The clinics offering the services are the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic, 267-7502; Kootenai Spay and Neuter in Hayden, 772-7310, and Northwoods Veterinary Hospital in Athol, 683-2708.

Post Falls

Two free concerts at library

The Post Falls Library, 821 N. Spokane St., will hold two free concerts during August. Both concerts will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

Doherty and Johnson will perform traditional and contemporary folk music next Thursday and play a variety of string instruments.

Six Foot Swing, the little big band from Spokane, will play on Aug. 21.

Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and refreshments.

The concerts are free and open to the public.
