City joins burning ban

A ban against open burning and recreational fires is in effect for the city of Spokane Valley.

The city joins Liberty Lake and Millwood, which issued 90-day burn ban notices Friday.

Bans are also in effect for Kootenai County, the city of Spokane and unincorporated parts of Spokane County.

Barbecues and other patio-type burners like chimneas are allowed, provided the fuel is briquettes, propane or seasoned firewood.

March of Dimes will ‘jail’ leaders

Spokane’s leaders will be “confined” at the Quality Inn, 110 E Fourth Ave., next Thursday, until they make “bail” to help raise money for research and education programs to prevent birth defects and premature birth.

March of Dimes is the leading organization for pregnancy and baby health with a mission to improve the health of all babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Look for verdicts of “guilty of doing good for babies” to be given to Spokane’s finest citizens. To “snitch” and have someone you know become a “jailbird,” contact the March of Dimes at 328-1920 by Monday.
