Retreat at Buddhist temple
The Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry, will present “The Art of Nembutsu – Experiencing Oneness in Daily Living,” a retreat led by Kenji Akahoshsi Friday through Monday.
The Nembutsu is the art of seeing life as it is and the beauty of everyday life, which is the heart of Shin Buddhism.
The cost to attend is $130 and registration is required.

The Orthodox Church is celebrating the Feast of the Dormition of Our Most Holy Lady, the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary today and Friday at two sites.
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., will offer Great Vespers today at 7 p.m. and Orthros at 9 a.m. and Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m., both on Friday.

Children’s choir concert
Central Baptist Church, 19 W. Shannon Ave., will present the India Children’s Choir today at 7 p.m.
The children in the choir are from the hills of Manipur on the India-Burma-China border and range in age from 8 to 12.

Teen-clothing drive
Cornerstone Christian Academy, 1801 E. 29th Ave., will host a clothing drive to benefit Teen Closet, an organization that provides new clothes, accessories and other necessities to children ages 12 through 18 who are in foster homes.
The clothing drive will be held Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m.
Items needed include new school clothes, toiletries, gift cards accessories and cash.

Vacation Bible School
•Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3307 W. Rowan Ave., will present “Friendship Trek,” a Vacation Bible School for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade Monday through Aug. 22.
