Schools name new staff

Cheney Public Schools has announced new staff and staff relocations.

Cheney High School

Bill Christianson is the new media specialist/business education teacher; Erik Helleson will be a science teacher. Julie Martin will move from the middle school to the high school to teach math and Mary Margaret Pratt will be a new instructional science coach.

Cheney Middle School

Jennifer Sewell will teach sixth grade and Dan Ayers will teach seventh grade. Lori Hays will be an instructional math coach. Tracy White will move from Cheney High School to teach eighth-grade math and Cindy Melhus will move from Salnave Elementary School to teach special education.

Betz Elementary

Bonnie Overlie will be a mathematics instructional coach who will divide her time with Sunset Elementary School, and Heather Whitman will be a special education teacher. Connie Gisselberg moves to Betz from Windsor Elementary School and Debra Nielson will move to Betz from Cheney High School.

Reid Elementary

Shannon Lawson will be an administrative coordinator.

Salnave Elementary

Suzanne Eoff will teach third grade and Mandolyn Hume will teach preschool. Stephanie Mertell will teach special education and Candice Nell will be the new Title I teacher. Heidi Hoblin comes to Salnave from Sunset Elementary and will teach fourth grade.

Sunset Elementary

Jane Smedley will teach a one-two combination class. Crystal Clapin will teach kindergarten and Troy Audet will teach first grade. Sara Niccolls will teach the fifth grade. Scott Frederick will move from the third to the fourth grade, Judy Jamison will move from the fifth to the third grade and Donna Ledbetter will teach kindergarten full time.

Windsor Elementary

Vince Songaylo will work as the mathematics instructional coach.

Student Support Services

Kristi Thurston will be the new director and Gretchen Stephens was hired as a speech language pathologist.

Students attending Cheney Public Schools return to classes Sept. 2.
