Contest winners named

Nearly 100 eagle-eyed kids from across the region quickly spotted Scoop Reporter hiding among advertisements in last week’s Voices and called the newspaper. The first seven who spoke with contest master Marsha Ovnicek will win free ice cream, an official Reporter’s Notebook and are this week’s Honorary Cub Reporters.

•Kathryn Munro, 11, who attends Greenacres Middle School and is the daughter of Jeff Munro. She spotted Scoop on page 8 of last Thursday’s Valley Voice.

•Abby Marshall, 8, who attends Wilson Elementary and whose parent is Maisie Bauer. She found Scoop hiding on page 6 of the South Side Voice.

•Andrew Johnson, 8, a Ridgeview Elementary School student whose grandmother is Carla Brown and whose dad is Shawn Johnson. Andrew discovered Scoop on page 13 of the North Side Voice.

•Aspen Tichey, 11, a Windsor Elementary School student whose parent is Adam Tichey. She uncovered Scoop on page 9 of the West Plains Voice.

•Kate McCloud, 6, who attends Lutheran Academy of the Master in Coeur d’Alene and whose parent is Laura McCloud. Kate spotted Scoop on page 8 of the Prairie Voice.

•Elizabeth Westervelt, 11, a Lake Middle School student, whose parent is Jennifer Westervelt, spotted Scoop hiding on page 11 of Saturday’s Handle Extra. •Calvin Crawford, 7, who is home-schooled and whose parent is Jeff Crawford, found Scoop hiding on page 9 of Saturday’s Valley Voice.

Open House for MOMS Club

The MOMS Club of Post Falls/Coeur d’Alene is hosting an open house on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Bible Church, 3974 N. Chase Road.

The club offers support for at home mothers, including monthly meetings, lunch dates, kids’ crafts, park days, MOMS night out, community service projects and more.

‘Pump in the Park’ at Q’emiln

World Gym and Hot Rod Cafe will host the fifth annual “Pump in the Park” today at Q’emiln Park in Post Falls from 6 to 9 p.m.

The event will include food, drinks, and live music. Entertainment and child care will also be available. An auction will be held, including items donated from local businesses.

Ticket prices are $15 for participation in the Body Pump Class, dinner and gift bag or $10 for a dinner ticket only.

Tickets may be purchased at Post Falls Church of the Nazarene, 308 W. 12th Ave., or at the event.

All proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County.

Choral group rehearsals

North Idaho College’s choral groups are beginning rehearsals for fall semester.

The next rehearsal for the NIC Concert Choir will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Boswell Hall on NIC’s main campus.

Those interested in joining the NIC Concert Choir should attend any of the remaining rehearsals Tuesday and Sept. 9.

No audition is necessary for participation, but an individual screening for section placement will take place at the first rehearsal. The choir is free and open to the community and there is no limit on the number of choir members.

Seats open on NIC board

Tuesday 5 p.m. is the deadline for filing a declaration of candidacy for two open positions on the North Idaho College Board of Trustees. Both positions are four-year terms.

NIC is governed by a five-member board of trustees elected from within Kootenai County for staggered terms.

Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old, a resident of Kootenai County for at least 30 days prior to the election and a registered voter. Candidates must also obtain five signatures from others meeting the same elector requirements on a nominating petition.

Forms are available in the NIC Business Office in Lee-Kildow Hall, Room 111, or the Kootenai County Elections Office at 1808 N. Third St. in Coeur d’Alene.

Annual car show at Silverwood

On Saturday the eighth annual Coaster Classic Car Show will be held at Silverwood Theme Park.

The “Labor of Love Weekend” is sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts and hosted by the Inland Empire Late Great Chevy Club ’55 to ’72. Coaster Classic has become one of the largest custom car shows in the region attracting more than 400 cars in 2007.

The entry fee is $15. Car registration includes admission to the park for the driver and one passenger.

Silverwood Theme Park and Boulder Beach Water Park are located 15 miles north of Coeur d’Alene on U.S. 95. On the day of the event the park will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
