Boise blanks Indians
BOISE – Jeff Beliveau struck out a season-high eight batters Saturday night and was one of three Boise pitchers who combined to shut out the Spokane Indians 1-0 in a meaningless Northwest League baseball matchup at Memorial Stadium.
Beliveau pitched 41/3 innings and allowed only one hit before giving way to Bubba O’Donnell (6-3), who picked up the win after giving up only one hit in his 31/3 innings.
Dan McDaniel finished the game for the Hawks (42-30) and picked up his seventh save just a day after Spokane (48-24) clinched the East Division title and earned a spot in the NWL’s best-of-5 playoff series that starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Avista Stadium.
Boise scored its run off Spokane starter and loser Martin Perez (1-2) in the second inning when Sean Hoorelbeke, who opening the inning with a walk, scored on Pat Mahoney’s groundout to second. Perez worked six innings, scattered six hits while striking out seven and walking one.
Edward Martinez accounted for both of Spokane’s hits with singles in the second and seventh innings.
Boise is 5-3 against Spokane this season.
Spokane will host the first two games of the playoffs.
