Ask superintendent questions online
Individuals with education-related questions can submit them on Spokane Public Schools’ Web site.
Superintendent Nancy Stowell will respond to the questions Tuesday. Holiday celebrations (or the lack thereof), math curriculum, homework, the WASL, next year’s levy and bond issues – any of them are fair game in these periodic online exchanges with Stowell. Her answers are sometimes involved, and sometimes as brief as, “That’s a question for your principal.”
To submit a question, go to www.spokaneschools.org and click on “Ask the Superintendent.”
Spokane Public Schools honors Regal principal
Mallory Thomas has been named elementary school principal of the year by Spokane Public Schools.
The announcement was made Tuesday morning at Regal Elementary School, where Thomas has been principal since 2004. She first became a principal in 1997, at Logan Elementary.
Thomas “sees potential in all things,” said one person who nominated her for the Dick Stannard Distinguished Elementary Principal of the Year award. Stannard was a Spokane principal who died in 1996.
This is not the first time Thomas’ work has been recognized.
In 1999, she was given an Everyday Hero Award from the East Spokane Kiwanis Club for her work at Logan. In 2006, she was given an Arts Administrator Award by the Spokane Symphony, in appreciation for her support of arts and music education.
Under Thomas’ leadership, Regal in 2005 received a $10,000 Title I Academic Achievement Award for improved reading scores.
