‘No, No, Nanette’ auditions coming up

The Spokane Civic Theatre, 1020 N. Howard St., will hold auditions for “No, No, Nanette” on Dec. 15 and Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Dancing and nondancing roles needed for the show include 10 to 12 men, appearing to be between the ages of 18 to 65, and 12 to 15 women, appearing to be between the ages of 18 to 55.

Participants will be expected to perform a musical number from another show, no longer than one minute, along with cold readings from the script. Tap shoes are requested and appropriate clothing for freedom of movement is required.

A tap dance clinic will be offered on Saturday and Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon from director/choreographer Jean Hardie for advance preparation. The clinic is offered free of charge.

Rehearsals for the show will begin after Christmas and performances will run Feb. 20 through March 15, performing Thursdays through Sundays.

Human rights events at SCC

United Nations Human Rights Day will be celebrated on Wednesday at the Spokane Community College Library Hagan Center, 1810 N. Greene St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Included in the celebration will be Voices of Human Rights: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 6 Languages, with audio headsets; an ongoing video of “Youth for Human Rights;” a community celebration of Human Rights Day with guests Mayor Mary Verner, Kitara McClure of Spokane Community College, Yvonne Lopez-Morton with the Washington Human Rights Commission, Golie Jansen with UNA-USA Spokane, Kathleen Mackenzie, World Affairs Council; keynote speaker and Gonzaga law professor and founder of Gonzaga Institute for Action Against Hate George Chritchlow will speak on “Sixty Years After: Celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;” and The Havermale Drummers.

A donation for Second Harvest Food Bank is requested.

God’s Closet seeks clothing donations

God’s Closet is collecting children’s gently used clothing, up to size 12, and baby items to donate to those in need in the community.

Dog party to help Dachshund rescue

Start celebrating the holidays early and help save homeless wiener dogs at the Holiday Wienerfest Party to benefit Dachshund Rescue Northwest at the Lilac City Dog Training Club, 1612 E Houston Ave., on Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Canine festivities include bobbing for hot dogs and a holiday costume contest.

Cost is $5 per person and a favorite potluck dish. Please bring plates to serve the food on.

A current list of adoptable dogs can be found at www.drnw.petfinder.com. All dogs are fixed or will be fixed before placement, and are up to date on their shots. Adoptable dogs are shorthaired unless otherwise noted.
