Help keep children warm this winter

During the month of December help keep kids warm this winter by donating new and gently used winter hats, scarves, mittens, coats, boots, warm socks, and other winter necessities in the Cozy Kids Drive.

Donations will be given to the Coeur d’Alene Homeless Shelter and Art on the Edge. Drop-off locations include Select Brokers, 311 E. Sherman Ave., and Java on Sherman at 324 E. Sherman Ave.

Pottery sale at NIC’s Boswell Hall

The North Idaho College Art Students Pottery Sale will be Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Boswell Hall, Room 158.

The sale is just in time for the holidays and will feature a number of functional and decorative pottery created by the students.

Donate to ‘Toys for Tots’

Edward Jones financial advisers in Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, Post Falls and Rathdrum have come together to support the Marine Corps League “Toys for Tots” campaign.

New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at any office to give children in need a merry Christmas this year. The last day to drop off toys will be Dec. 18.

Pet calendar features contest winners

The Kootenai Humane Society 2009 Pet Photo Calendar is now available for sale.

The calendar features all entries of a 2008 KHS-sponsored photo contest and the 13 winners who made the cover and pet-of-the-month honors.

This is the first calendar produced by the local animal welfare group, which will kick off its 2010 calendar contest on Dec. 15.

Copies may be purchased at www.kootenaihumanesociety.com or at the shelter, located at 11650 N. Ramsey Road in Hayden. They may also be purchased at the shelter thrift stores at 916 N. Third Ave. in Coeur d’Alene and 1600 Seltice Way in the Harbor Ridge Shopping Center in Post Falls.

Art exhibit marks Human Rights Day

The Bonner County Human Rights Task Force and Pend Oreille Arts Council will present The Art of Human Rights on Wednesday, on Human Rights Day, at 5:30 p.m. It will take place at the Pend Oreille Arts Council Gallery, in the Power HouseBuilding, 120 Lake St., No. 215, in Sandpoint.

The event is the second annual young artists’ exhibition of human rights-themed art and literature serves to broaden knowledge about human rights.

The event is free. Refreshments will be served, and music will be presented by the Sandpoint Middle School choir.

Moscow

Winter Market to benefit Habitat

The fifth annual Winter Market will be today at the 1912 Center in the Great Room, located at 412 E. Third Street in Moscow, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Market will feature vendors from Moscow’s Farmers’ Market, selling artisan breads and cheeses, jewelry, potters, hand-dyed yarns and hand-knit socks, luxurious soaps and creams, art photography, kids’ clothing and holiday wreaths.

Children can have their picture taken with Santa Claus and make crafts.

A baked-potato bar, including all of the trimmings, will be put on by the Moscow Rotary Club, along with Turkish food by Peri Kochman.

The event will benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Party to benefit homeless Dachshunds

Start celebrating the holidays early and help save homeless wiener dogs at the Holiday Wienerfest Party to benefit Dachshund Rescue Northwest at the Lilac City Dog Training Club, 1612 E. Houston Ave., on Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Canine festivities include bobbing for hot dogs and a holiday costume contest.

Cost is $5 per person and a favorite potluck dish. Please bring plates to serve the food on.

A current list of adoptable dogs can be found at www.drnw.petfinder.com. All dogs are fixed or will be fixed before placement, and are up to date on their shots. Adoptable dogs are shorthaired unless otherwise noted.
