Post Falls rallies past Eagles

Shawn Reid scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds Thursday to lead the Post Falls Trojans to a 54-45 non-league basketball victory over the West Valley Eagles in the opening game of the Border Clash at Gonzaga University’s McCarthey Athletic Center.

Post Falls outscored WV 17-5 in the fourth quarter after trailing 40-37 after three periods. Justin Carter added 16 points for the Trojans (1-0).

Jordan Lupfer-Graham led the Eagles (2-1) with 19 points.

The game was followed by a doubleheader of North Idaho College and the Community Colleges of Spokane women and men.

In other non-league games, Derek Tymesen scored 15 points to lead the host Timberlake Tigers (2-1) to a 56-44 victory over the Coeur d’Alene Charter Panthers (2-1) at Spirit Lake. Bob Schrack scored 14 and Mike Mitchell 10 for Charter. … At Harrison, J.T. Philt scored 15 points and the Lake City junior varsity used big first and third quarters to beat the host Kootenai Warriors 63-41. Jake Zarpentine had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Kootenai (0-2), which played without three injured starters.

Girls basketball

Gabrielle Daily and Kylie Tareski combined for 38 points to lead the visiting Medical Lake Cardinals (2-0) to a 64-34 non-league victory over the Kettle Falls Bulldogs (2-1). Daily scored 20 and Tareski added 18 as the Cardinals outscored the Bulldogs 38-8 in the second half. Jessica Coots had 13 points for Kettle Falls. … At St. Maries, Karly Truscott scored 16 of her 21 points on fast breaks and the Lumberjacks (3-4) defeated the Potlatch Loggers 57-46. … Britnay Walsh had 14 points and 17 rebounds, but the Mullan Tigers missed 23 free throws and dropped a 34-33 decision to the Kellogg JV at Kellogg. Mullan got the ball back with 7 seconds remaining in the game, drove the length of the floor, drew a foul and missed both free throws.

Wrestling

The Central Valley Bears won the first seven matches – including four pins – and cruised to a 51-13 Greater Spokane League victory over the Mt. Spokane Wildcats at CV. At 152 pounds, CV’s Justin Walker scored a takedown in the final 2 seconds to earn a 9-8 decision over Mt. Spokane’s Matt Littrel. CV’s Dan Bentley had a takedown of Sawyer Piecewicz in overtime to claim an 8-6 victory. … At Lewis and Clark, the host Tigers won early but the University Titans won often. LC won decisions in two of the first three matches, but the Titans won the final 11 matches in a 62-6 victory. … Mead earned seven pins on its way to a 57-12 win over the visiting Shadle Park Highlanders. At 189, Corey Combs pinned Shadle state veteran Bo Scheutzle in 5:16. … At East Valley, the host Knights won every match, including five pins in the final six weight classes, during a 79-0 sweep of Gonzaga Prep. … Ferris’ Brandon Riehle pinned Sam Rykken of North Central in the final match of the night to help the Saxons preserve a 44-35 win over the host Indians.

Gymnastics

Alana Norman, Kali Young, Melissa Edmunds swept the top three all-around spots and the Shadle Park Highlanders went on to beat Central Valley, Ferris and Mt. Spokane in a GSL meet at Shadle. Norman claimed individual titles in all four events.
