Spay and neuter aid offered

February is Responsible Pet Owners Month, a good time to get your pets spayed or neutered, according to Ami Gibson, spokesperson for Concerned Animals. To help those with limited finances, Concerned Animals has arranged for 10 veterinarians throughout North Idaho to provide spay and neuter procedures for dogs and cats at a reduced cost. Throughout the month of February, area residents can take their pets to be spayed or neutered for a donation of $20 per cat or $30 per dog, with Concerned Animals covering the remaining costs of the veterinarian services.

Gibson said they hope those in need will take advantage of the program and believes their funds, received through grants from individuals and organizations, will hold out for the month. Concerned Animals, a “100 percent volunteer group,” according to Gibson, also provides emergency food for those who cannot afford to feed their animals. “Need is always greater in the winter,” she said, “and the need is bigger for cat food than for dog food.” Please send tax-deductible donations to P.O. Box 359, Rathdrum, ID 83858. For more information call (208) 687-5054.

Discounted spay and neuter procedures will be available throughout February through the following veterinarian service providers: Rathdrum Animal Clinic; River City Animal Hospital inPost Falls; Northwoods Vet Hospital in Athol; Prairie Animal Hospital in Coeur d’Alene; Bonner Spay and Neuter, North Idaho Animal Hospital and Pend Oreille Vet Service, all in Sandpoint; Benewah Vet Clinic in St. Maries; Kellogg Animal Hospital, and Silver Valley Vet in Pinehurst.
