Katie Sweatt sat out North Central’s gymnastics season a year ago because of injury.

This year she almost led the Indians to their first Greater Spokane League title since 1992.

Sweatt won all-around at every meet but one. The Indians defeated eventual champion University in a non-league match before dropping the title-deciding contest at season’s end.

“She’s done a great job,” said NC assistant coach Angela Deatherage. “We went into the last meet expecting a title tie, but another of our seniors (Nicole Hossfeld) was injured on the second rotation. Katie kept the team up. She’s a great leader.”

NC competes at U-Hi this weekend in the 3A/2A regional for team, all-around and individual event berths to state. Sweatt, who competed at state as a sophomore, will be among the contenders.
