Kelly Hennessey scored 13 points and Teara Cornmesser added 12 to lead Liberty to a 48-45 overtime victory over Wilbur-Creston in a District 7 2B tournament game Friday night at Spokane Falls Community College. Hennessey scored six of the Lancers’ eight points in overtime.
Maddisen Peterson had 12 points and Cassandra Herdrick added 11 for the Wildcats.
Wilbur-Creston’s Shelby Coffman made two free throws with 0.7 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. She finished with nine points.
Liberty (10-12) advances to play Lind-Ritzville (17-4) at 4 p.m. today for a berth to the regional tournament, Feb. 16-23 at Mead and Mt. Spokane high schools.
The Wildcats (12-9) were eliminated.
Also at SFCC, Maria Villegas scored 12 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter and added five steals and five assists to lead Selkirk to a 54-42 victory over Reardan. Heather Pope added nine points, 10 blocks and 13 rebounds for the Rangers (11-10), who outscored the Indians (11-10) 30-23 in the second half. The Rangers play Springdale (16-6) at 12:45 p.m. today for a berth to the regional tournament.
“Bridget Bower scored 17 points and Katie Redman added 15 as Garfield-Palouse defeated Tekoa-Oakesdale 47-39 in overtime in a Whitman County League tournament game in Endicott. The Vikings outscored the Nighthawks 10-2 in overtime. Shelby Puckett led Tekoa-Oakesdale with a game-high 18 points. The Nighthawks (13-8) advance to the regional tournament as the third seed while Garfield-Palouse (16-3) will play Colton (17-2) at 6 tonight to determine the top two seeds to the district tournament. … Also, Kelsey Simon scored 14 points to lead St. John-Endicott to a 53-27 win over Sprague-Harrington. The Eagles outscored the Falcons 20-6 in the second quarter to take a 34-16 lead into halftime. St. John-Endicott (11-10) will play LaCrosse-Washtucna (12-9) at 2 p.m. today to determine the fourth and fifth seeds to the district tournament. Sprague-Harrington (1-19), last year’s state champion, was eliminated.
“Shaniqua Nilles scored a game-high 13 points to lead West Valley to a 52-45 win over Riverside in a Great Northern League game at Riverside. Hannah Love chipped in 12 points and Melissa Mauro added 11 for the Eagles (13-3, 8-2), who outscored the Rams 31-21 in the first half. Shea Spicer scored 12 points for Riverside (9-9, 3-9). … Elsewhere, Laikyn Brophy scored 12 points and Kyle Miller added 11 to lead Cheney (7-8, 5-4) past host Colville 43-33. Jordan Emmil tallied a game-high 15 points for the Indians (7-10, 4-7). … Kellie McCann-Smith scored 21 points to lead Clarkston (8-7, 5-4) to a 55-39 win over host Deer Park (1-15, 1-9). … Medical Lake’s game at Pullman was postponed because of weather conditions and will be made up Feb. 20.
“Hannah Nyrop scored 16 points and Kootenai earned a spot in the Idaho state tournament with a 43-21 victory over Wallace in the 1A District I championship game at Kellogg. The Warriors (8-12) took control in the second half, outscoring the Miners (5-14) 27-14. Kootenai will play Carey on Wednesday in the first round of the state tournament at Columbia High School in Nampa. … Also, Clark Fork (12-10) defeated Lakeside (Plummer) (9-10) 38-34. The Wampus Cats will play Wallace at 6 tonight with a berth to the state tournament on the line.
