Home search nets pot plants

The Spokesman-Review

Detectives assigned to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Investigative Support Unit raided a Spokane Valley home Tuesday afternoon and seized 44 marijuana plants, four firearms and a quantity of cash, said spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan. The residents are out of town.

Detectives developed information that the suspects were growing the drug inside the home at 12312 E. 18th Ave., and executed a search warrant about 3 p.m. Tuesday. They found the plants and began the chore of seizing it all as evidence.

Probable cause exists now for the arrest of Jay B. and Rena K. Herndobler on felony counts of manufacturing a controlled substance.

Man robs card store

A man armed with a knife robbed the 50% Off Card Shop at 12111 E. Sprague Ave., Monday and escaped with cash taken from three tills.

Employees said the robber was in the store for a while prior to the robbery and approached the checkout with a card in hand. He drew a knife from his pocket and demanded money about 6:55 p.m.

The employees complied with the thief’s demand and he left the store on foot. Officers searched the area for nearly an hour without locating him, but did find a glove he may have dropped.

The robber was described as a white male in his 30s or early 40s who appeared to be possibly strung out on drugs. He was about 5-foot-10, 150 pounds. Employees said the man spoke with a lisp.

Anyone with information concerning this armed robbery is encouraged to call the Spokane Valley Police at 242-TIPS.

Traffic stop nets drugs

A traffic stop for a defective headlight Wednesday evening ended with felony drug arrests for a Spokane man and Kellogg woman.

Spokane Valley Police Officer Jack Rosenthal was working the 1900 block of North Hutchinson about 6:10 p.m. when he stopped a Pontiac for having a headlight out. As he approached the car, he spotted a knife protruding from the dash that was angled so it could be drawn by the male driver.

The officer walked to the passenger side of the car and asked the driver to exit the Pontiac. He learned that the man had a suspended driver’s license.

Rosenthal arrested the man and placed him in his patrol car. He asked the female passenger to step out of the car and saw that she had been sitting on a second knife and a small metal container. The container held methamphetamine and Oxycontin, both controlled substances.

On the floorboard was a lunch box that held a second metal tin containing drug scales, a meth pipe and an empty contact lens case. The female passenger was wearing contacts.

The officer found a black nylon pouch on the back floorboard that held a piece of metal foil containing meth. He also found another pouch beneath the front seat that was closed with a small padlock. Rosenthal seized it until he could obtain a search warrant.

The officer arrested Jaime R. Morris, Kellogg, and 27-year-old Ryan L. Rasberry, 1214 E. Glass Ave. Both suspects were booked on felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and possession of Oxycontin.
