Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Rashanda McCants had 19 points, Erlana Larkins added 18 points and No. 3 North Carolina beat Georgia Tech 75-61 Sunday at Atlanta.

Despite committing 27 turnovers, North Carolina improved to 9-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (22-2 overall) and extended their winning streak to 12 against the Yellow Jackets, dating to 2002. The Tar Heels have won five in a row since losing at No. 1 Connecticut on Jan. 21.

Georgia Tech (18-6, 5-5) is off to its best start in 30 years but has struggled against the elite teams in its conference – the Yellow Jackets have lost all five games against Top 25 teams this season.

Wearing pink uniforms to raise breast cancer awareness, Georgia Tech gave the Tar Heels a tougher time than it did in a 21-point loss in Chapel Hill on Jan. 5.

The Yellow Jackets led by six midway through the first half, but the Tar Heels responded with a 16-2 run and led 42-38 at halftime.

Georgia Tech stayed within single digits for several minutes in the second half. But each time the Yellow Jackets tried to close the gap, the Tar Heels gave themselves breathing room with a key stop or a quick basket.

(8) LSU 63, (24) Georgia 57: At Baton Rouge, La., Sylvia Fowles had 19 points and 15 rebounds to help the Lady Tigers (20-3, 9-0 Southeastern Conference) stretch their winning streak to 11 games with a victory over the Bulldogs (17-7, 4-5).
