Area Roundup: Pargo earns WCC honor

Gonzaga men’s basketball player Jeremy Pargo was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week after leading the Bulldogs to home victories over Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount.

Pargo, a junior, averaged 14 points, nine assists and 4.5 steals per game.

Pargo had 13 points and 12 assists in GU’s 101-59 victory over Pepperdine on Saturday.

This is Pargo’s second WCC Player of the Week honor this season.

Baseball

Gonzaga was chosen to finish fifth in the WCC preseason poll, as selected by conference coaches.

The Bulldogs finished second in the conference last season with a 15-6 conference record and appeared in the WCC championship series for the first time since 2001.

San Diego, last year’s conference champion, was picked to finish first, followed by Pepperdine, Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount.

Women’s basketball

The University of Washington was selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I championship in 2009 and 2010.

Spokane is hosting a regional this year.
