Zoning change needs reworking
A zoning change designed to limit building heights in Bayview and require developers to provide more parking has been sent back to its authors for more work.
The Kootenai County Board of Commissioners continued consideration of the zoning “overlay” to an undetermined date, effectively tabling it until changes are made.
A group of residents from the small community on the south end of Lake Pend Oreille had hoped commissioners would pass the zoning overlay as a way to protect views of the lake and preserve quality of life there but others at the hearing argued the change could violate property rights, said Kootenai County Planner Mark Mussman.
“The question is if this was an attempt to curtail efforts of landowners trying to improve their property or an effort to recognize the special features of Bayview and protect those,” Mussman said.
