Curlew earns state berth
Larissa Miller made a free throw with 0.2 seconds left to give Curlew a 46-45 state-qualifying victory over Cusick in a District 7 1B loser-out game Saturday night at Deer Park.
Mackenzie Wilson had 18 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Cougars, who advance to the state tournament as the second seed. Sacha Hall added 10 points and Miller finished with seven for Curlew (14-10).
Traci Miller had 14 points for the Panthers (15-7), who were eliminated.
•Freeman earned the second seed to the regional tournament with a 46-35 win over Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) in a District 7 1A tournament game at Mead. Carley Heinen, Kelsey Raines and Megan McIntyre all had nine points for the Scotties (21-2), who will host the Caribou Trail League’s second seed on Tuesday. The Eagles (13-11) took the third seed and will play at the CTL’s second seed on Tuesday. … In another 1A game, Lake Roosevelt ended Kettle Falls’ season by beating the Bulldogs (9-13) 65-52 at Chelan High. The Raiders advance to regionals as the fourth seed.
•Chessey Thomas scored 15 points as St. George’s edged Asotin 50-49 in the opening round of the District 7/9 2B regional tournament at Mead High School. Thomas made two free throws with 14.3 seconds left to put the Dragons (21-3) up by three and St. George’s held on for the win. … Also at Mead, Kelly Hennessey and Heather Kjack scored 12 points apiece and Liberty came from behind to beat Pomeroy 55-50. The Lancers outscored the Pirates 40-18 in the second half to erase a 17-point halftime deficit. Liberty (12-13) advances to play St. George’s at 5:45 p.m. Monday at Mead for a state berth. … Hayley Hendricksen scored 25 points to lead Northwest Christian (20-3) past Springdale (17-8) 59-44 at Mt. Spokane. … Laura Cain scored 10 points to lead Lind-Ritzville past DeSales 50-23. Lind-Ritzville (20-4) will play Northwest Christian at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Mead with a state berth on the line. DeSales will play Springdale at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Mt. Spokane in a loser-out game.
•Alisa Moehrle-Druffel scored 21 points as Colton defeated St. John-Endicott 46-36 in the championship of the District 9 1B tournament at Walla Walla Community College. The Wildcats (20-3) earned the first seed to the state tournament. The Eagles (13-12) earned the second seed. … Also, Garfield-Palouse defeated Touchet (20-4) 39-30 in the game to determine the third and fourth seeds. Elisha Lopez had eight points, seven rebounds and five steals to lead the Vikings (20-4).
•Hannah Love scored 27 points and Melissa Mauro added 20 to lead West Valley (16-4, 11-3) to a 74-55 Great Northern League win over host Clarkston. Kellie McCann-Smith tallied a team-high 24 points for the Bantams (10-10, 7-7).
•Pairings are set for the 4A regional, which begins Tuesday. GSL No. 1 Lewis and Clark will host Columbia Basin League No. 4 Richland. GSL No. 2 Shadle Park will host CBL No. 3 Pasco at Spokane Falls. GSL No. 3 Mead will play at CBL No. 2 Walla Walla. GSL No. 4 Central Valley will play at CBL No. 1 Moses Lake. All games are at 6 p.m.
