One man arrested in Valley shooting
Spokane Valley police arrested a 43-year-old man Wednesday morning after another man was shot in the back.
Officers arrested Cary W. Reaves on an outstanding warrant, but police said he’s suspected of shooting a 23-year-old man about 1:30 a.m. in a 7-Eleven parking lot at Broadway Avenue and Park Road.
The victim’s injury did not appear to be life-threatening, department spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said. The victim, whose name was not released, was being treated Wednesday at a hospital.
A gun police believe was used in the shooting was found in front of Central Pre-Mix on North Park Road, Reagan said.
The situation started sometime before 1 a.m. at the Puerto Vallarta restaurant at 6915 E. Sprague Ave., where two groups argued, Reagan said. They left in two vehicles and drove to the 7-Eleven, where their fight continued.
Witnesses told police that one man pulled a pistol and shot the victim in the back or lower torso. The shooter then ran south on Park Road, Reagan said.
Reaves, who was stopped by police at Sprague and Park, matched a description given by witnesses.
He had no gun, but he carried a magazine of ammunition matching the small-caliber casings found at the convenience store, police said. One witness identified Reaves as being involved in the melee that resulted in the shooting, Lt. Steve Barbieri said.
Detectives were seeking two other men and a woman who were reportedly with Reaves during the incident. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Spokane Valley police at (509) 242-TIPS.
