Rutgers gives coach Stringer her 800th win

The 800-win club has a new member: C. Vivian Stringer.

Stringer joined Pat Summitt and Jody Conradt as the only women’s basketball coaches to win 800 games as No. 4 Rutgers (23-4, 13-1 Big East) beat DePaul (18-9, 7-7) 60-46 on Wednesday night in Piscataway, N.J.

Doug Bruno also coached DePaul when Summitt beat the Blue Demons for her 800th.

Essence Carson scored 20 points and Epiphanny Prince added 15 to lead Rutgers.

(8) Baylor 76, Colorado 62: At Waco, Texas, Angela Tisdale scored 30 points, including 17 on free throws, to lead the Lady Bears (24-3, 12-2 Big 12) to a victory over the Buffaloes (15-12, 4-10).

The Bears were 25 of 31 from the line.

(10) Oklahoma 65, Texas Tech 55: At Lubbock, Texas, Courtney Paris and Danielle Robinson each scored 19 points to lead the Sooners (21-5, 11-3 Big 12) over the Aggies (16-12, 4-10).

Paris, who also got 22 rebounds, extended her double-double streak to 87 games.

Men

(2) Memphis 82, Tulsa 67: At Memphis, Tenn., Willie Kemp scored 14 points and keyed a first-half Tigers (27-1, 13-0 Conference USA) rally, leading Memphis to a victory over the Golden Hurricane (15-11, 6-7).

Kemp was 5 of 10 from the field, including 4 for 7 on 3-pointers.

(6) Kansas 75, Iowa State 64: At Ames, Iowa, Darrell Arthur had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Mario Chalmers and Brandon Rush each added 15 points and the Jayhawks (25-3, 10-3 Big 12) beat the Cyclones (14-14, 4-9).

(7) Duke 71, Georgia Tech 58: At Durham, N.C., Gerald Henderson and DeMarcus Nelson both scored 15 points and the Blue Devils (24-3, 11-2) beat the Yellow Jackets (11-15, 4-8) to move into a first-place tie in the Atlantic Coast Conference with rival North Carolina.

(11) Georgetown 64, St. John’s 52: At Washington, DaJuan Summers made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead the Hoyas (23-4, 13-3 Big East) to a win against the Red Storm (10-17, 4-11).

Roy Hibbert scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half.

(16) Purdue 65, Minnesota 53: At West Lafayette, Ind., E’Twaun Moore scored 22 points and the Boilermakers (22-6, 13-2 Big Ten) beat the Golden Gophers (17-10, 7-8).

Robbie Hummel had 12 points and eight rebounds for Purdue.

McKiver breaks Bird’s record

Robert McKiver scored 52 points, including 21 off 3-pointers, to lead Houston to a 95-67 victory over Southern Mississippi.

McKiver’s total broke a Hofheinz Pavilion record of 44 points set by Larry Bird for Indiana in an NIT game on March 9, 1977. McKiver shot 17 of 34 from the field, including 7 of 17 from 3-point range. He also hit 11 of 12 free throws.
