Council seeks art advisers

The city is looking for volunteers to staff a newly created Public Art Commission. The commission will advise City Council members on the planning, procurement, installation and maintenance of public art projects and artworks.

Applicants should have a background in art or formal education or training in visual or performing arts. Applicants are appointed by the mayor and must be approved by the City Council.

Applications are available on the city Web site at www.libertylakewa.gov or picked up at City Hall at 22710 E. Country Vista Drive. Call Doug Smith at 755-6706 for more information. Applications will be accepted until all the positions are filled.

Reading skills workshops offered

The Liberty Lake Municipal Library is offering a program for parents on how to teach their children six essential pre-reading skills before they enter kindergarten. Parents who attend will also receive a free book for their child.

Workshops for parents of kids up to age 3 will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22 and Jan. 30 at the library, 1421 N. Meadowwood Lane, Suite 130. Parents only need to attend one session. A workshop for parents of children ages 4-5 will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29. More workshops for ages 4-6 are planned for February but have not yet been scheduled.

Parents planning to attend are asked to register by calling the library at 232-2510. The workshops are funded by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, the Office of the Secretary of State and the Liberty Lake Rotary.
