Patty Mills scored 16 points and handed out six assists to lead Saint Mary’s over Santa Clara in Moraga, Calif. Ian O’Leary scored all but two of his 16 points in the second half and grabbed nine rebounds and Diamon Simpson had 14 points and 10 boards for the Gaels. John Bryant had 18 points and 11 boards for the Broncos under first-year head coach Kerry Keating. … Gyno Pomare scored 18 points to lead San Diego over San Francisco in San Diego, denying coach Eddie Sutton his 799th career win. San Diego made 22 of 36 free throws compared to 6 of 8 for the Dons. Sutton is winless in four games since taking over on an interim basis Dec. 26 from Jessie Evans, who was granted a leave of absence for personal reasons. … Sherrard Watson scored 22 points and Nik Raivio had 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists as Portland beat Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. Utah State coach Stew Morrill gained his 225th win with the victory, tying him for most in school history with E.L. Romney. New Mexico State was led in scoring by Jonathan Gibson with 22 and former Pullman High standout Fred Peete with 16. … Reggie Larry scored 25 points and pulled down 15 rebounds and Matt Nelson added 22 points to lead Boise State past Louisiana Tech in Boise.
