Jon Brockman scored 21 points and had 16 rebounds and Ryan Appleby emerged from a deep funk to score a season-high 19 as Washington defeated Oregon 78-70 Thursday night at Seattle for the Huskies’ first Pac-10 men’s basketball win of the season.

Brockman had his conference-leading 11th double-double of the season for Washington (10-7, 1-3 Pac-10), one more than Maarty Luenen.

Luenen scored 22 points to go with his six rebounds for the Ducks (12-5, 3-2), who next play at No. 8 Washington State on Sunday.

Luenen overpowered Quincy Pondexter for a three-point play with 3:12 left to pull Oregon to within 68-65, after it had trailed by 10 moments earlier. But Brockman tipped in his own miss and, after two free throws by Oregon’s Malik Hairston, Appleby swished his fifth 3 in 10 tries.

The Huskies have won six of their last eight games against the Ducks. Washington beat Oregon in Seattle for the seventh consecutive time dating to 2001, its longest such run since 1983-1989.

Hairston added 20 points for Oregon, which never lead after 19-17 early.

(22) Arizona State 99, California 90 (2OT): At Berkeley, Calif., James Harden scored his team’s first five points of the second overtime and finished with 27, making the Sun Devils’ return to the rankings for the first time in nearly 13 years a success with a win over the Bears.

Ty Abbott hit two 3-pointers in the second extra session, a key 3 late in the first OT and yet another that tied the game with 8.1 seconds left in regulation. He finished with 25, nine rebounds and five assists to give Arizona State (14-2, 4-0) its 10th straight victory.

Ryan Anderson had 32 points and 15 rebounds for Cal (11-5, 2-3), which got the ball under ASU’s basket with 4.8 seconds to play in the first OT but couldn’t capitalize when Jerome Randle missed a long 3 at the buzzer.

Stanford 56, Arizona 52: At Stanford, Calif., Brook Lopez scored 19 points, including a tiebreaking jumper with less than 2 minutes left that helped the Cardinal snap a six-game losing streak to the Wildcats.

Lopez’s baseline jumper with 1:55 to play put Stanford (14-3, 3-2) on top 54-52. Jordan Hill then missed a shot underneath at the other end for Arizona (11-6, 1-3) with Lopez lurking nearby.
