Whitworth, CCS men post wins

Colin Willemsen scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Whitworth to a 66-62 Northwest Conference men’s basketball win over Pacific Lutheran Friday night at Olson Auditorium in Tacoma.

David Riley and Ryan Symes added 16 points apiece for the Pirates, who improved to 10-3 and 4-1 in conference play.

Josh Dressler had 17 points and Jared Brandeberry added 14 for the Lutes, who fell to 7-4 and 4-1.

•Matthew Dorr scored a team-high 18 points and Leonardo Avila and Bo Gregg added 15 each as the Community Colleges of Spokane beat Treasure Valley 75-64 in a NWAACC game in Ontario, Ore.

Eric Beal added 11 points for the Sasquatch, who held a 37-40 halftime lead.

The Chukars were led by Shane Miller, who scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting.

CCS improved to 18-1 on the season and 5-0 in the NWAACC. TVCC fell to 6-11 and 3-2.

Women

Emily Voorhies led four players in double figures with 18 points and Pacific Lutheran beat Whitworth 81-64 in a Northwest Conference game at Olson Auditorium in Tacoma.

Kyle Haag had 13 points, Amy Spieker chipped in 12 and Trinity Gibbons added 11 for the Lutes, who led 43-33 at the half.

Alida Bower tallied a game-high 20 points and Liz Horiatis added 10 to lead the Pirates.

Whitworth fell to 8-6 and 3-2 in conference play while Pacific Lutheran improved to 8-6 and 1-4.

•Ashlee Michelson scored 13 points and Kellee Neal added 10 points and six rebounds as Community Colleges of Spokane edged Treasure Valley 54-48 in a NWAACC game in Ontario, Ore.

The Sasquatch converted 19 of 25 free throws while the Chukars were 11 of 16 from the line.

Ashile Macfarlane tossed in 21 points and Hope Williams added 13 points and seven rebounds to lead Treasure Valley.

CCS improved to 14-3 on the season and 4-0 in conference play while TVCC fell to 4-13 and 1-3.

Top 10

(4) Maryland 74, Virginia 62: At Charlottesville, Va., Marah Strickland and Kristi Toliver hit consecutive 3-pointers in the second half to help the Terrapins (21-1, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat the Cavaliers (13-5, 2-1) for their 11th straight win.

Crystal Langhorne, who needed just five points to become Maryland’s career scoring leader, had 20 points and 16 rebounds, and Marissa Coleman scored 13 points.

Maryland enjoyed a 43-28 rebounding edge, and finished with 36 second-chance points.

Monica Wright led Virginia with 22 points.
