Fans get black eye

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane Chiefs fans have a great deal to be ashamed about. For those of you who cheered and clapped when the Everett Silvertips’ Kyle Beach finally got up after being on the ice for quite a while, you can stop reading.

However, for the dozens or even (let’s hope not) hundreds who actually booed when he got up – and a couple of other times – there is not a severe enough adjective to describe your behavior.

I understand the hockey environment: heckling the other team, even to the point of personal insults, etc. This is half the reason to go in the first place. However, to boo a player who is obviously badly hurt is beyond disgraceful and is a black eye on the entire city.

It doesn’t matter what Beach had done during the game or before. He was a human being in agonizing pain and a great many of you took pleasure in that.

The city of Spokane owes the city of Everett an apology and should take great pains to show our friends there that citizens here actually do possess class and good judgment.
