School volunteers honored
Spokane Public Schools has named its Outstanding Volunteers for the first half of the 2007-08 school year.
•“Grandma” Pat Smith has volunteered at Holmes Elementary School for nine years and has followed a group of students from kindergarten through sixth grade.
•Kris Hendron is a volunteer at Lewis and Clark High School, where she is the volunteer coordinator. This year, she has logged in more than 350 phone calls to find active registered volunteers. Hendron has been a volunteer with the district for 11 years, the last four at LC.
•“Grandma” Dora Powell is a volunteer at Sheridan Elementary School for six hours a day, four days a week. Not only does Powell work with the special needs of preschool, kindergarten and second-grade students, she also helps recruit senior citizen volunteers.
•Brian Hott is a volunteer at Grant Elementary School. He works in Michelle Fleckenstein’s second-grade classroom.
•Maria Maysonet volunteers at Adams Elementary School as a crossing guard and the volunteer coordinator.
•Vickie Johnson volunteers at Audubon Elementary School. She began volunteering when her son started school seven years ago, but has stayed with the kindergarten classes.
