The Spokesman-Review

Mattie Bridgmon and Matt Nichols were named the Eastern Washington University Scholar Athletes for the month of December.

Bridgmon, a junior from Laramie, Wyo., became EWU’s third female to compete in the NCAA Track and Field Championships last fall, finishing 64th after placing fifth in the Big Sky Conference meet. At the conference’s outdoor track and field championships last year, she was fourth in the 10,000 meters and seventh in the 5,000.

Nichols led the football team to a 9-4 record and broke five school records along the way. He broke the school record for touchdown passes with 34 and had five 300-yard passing performances last season.

Nichols, a sophomore, was named the Big Sky Conference Offensive MVP.
