The local chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Spokane Public Library, is presenting “Writers Talking.” Authors will read at the South Hill Library, located at 3324 S. Perry St. Readings begin at 11 a.m.

Idaho writers Terry Trueman and Larry Telles will read on July 12; on July 19, Kelly Milner Hallsand Verla Kay; Chris Crutcher and Beth Cooley on July 26; and to finish the series, Mary Cronk Farrell and Claire Rudolf Murphy on Aug. 2. All authors are local.

College offers driving course

Teen drivers will have the opportunity to improve their emergency driving skills at the Teen Extreme Driving Seminar held July 12 and 13, taught by law enforcement trainers and professional driving instructors.

The cost for the two-day seminar is $169. The fee covers the student and one parent.

Drivers will learn threshold braking and collision avoidance, eyesight/distance and distracted driving exercises, and handling different conditions.

The event will be held at the Spokane Community College campus, at Mission and Greene.
