The Spokesman-Review

Yankees 5, Rays 0: At New York, Derek Jeter lined an early go-ahead double off All-Star Scott Kazmir, then made a stellar play in the seventh inning that preserved a two-run lead as the third-place Yankees avoided falling 9 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay in the East. The Rays, with the best record in majors, lost two in row for the first time since June 10-11.

Red Sox 6, Twins 5: At Boston, Manny Ramirez hit a game-tying two-run homer as part of a four-run eighth inning to help the Red Sox rally past Minnesota. It was the second straight game Ramirez came through in the eighth inning to rally the Red Sox.

Rangers 3, Angels 2: At Arlington, Texas, Josh Hamilton’s major league-leading 87th RBI helped Texas left-hander Matt Harrison win his big league debut with a victory over Los Angeles. After Ian Kinsler doubled in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 20 games, Hamilton put the Rangers ahead with an RBI single.

White Sox 8, Royals 7 (13): At Kansas City, Mo., Orlando Cabrera scored Alexei Ramirez on a hit-and-run double in the 13th inning, and Chicago held off the Royals. Chicago reliever Nick Masset coaxed a game-ending bases-loaded double play from Mark Grudzielanek.

Tigers 9, Indians 2: At Detroit, Miguel Cabrera hit two home runs, Marcus Thames had one and Justin Verlander was dominant after a shaky start and the Tigers handed Cleveland its ninth straight loss. Verlander is 4-0 in his last six starts.

Blue Jays 7, Orioles 6: At Toronto, Alex Rios scored when shortstop Freddie Bynum misplayed a grounder in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Blue Jays edged Baltimore.
