Home Run Construction on top

Two wins over fellow title contenders this past week moved Home Run Construction atop the 16U League in Spokane Valley Girls Softball.

Home Run (5-1) defeated Farrell Spray 15-5 and Tri Diamond (both 4-2) 11-5. Emily Mauro had 15 strikeouts in the two wins, doubled and drove in three runs in the first triumph. Allie Riggin had five RBIs and Ynasia Van Komen drove in four more during the two victories. Baily Riggin had three hits in the second game.

Dairy Queen (4-1) is a half game behind following a 25-1 win. Holly Lewis was 5-for-5, Emily Hankel and Ashley McCarty were 4-for-5 each, and McCarty struck out eight while pitching.

Three teams remain tied for first with two others a half game back in 14U play. Spokane Transfer (4-1) topped BNSF 13-3, Shelby Harbison and Julia Rambo combining for 10 strikeouts. Harbison and Christie Tombari each tripled.

The team is tied with Legend’s Photography and Einstein’s Car Wash which topped Woodcraft 12-2. Lizz Denny hit two doubles.

In another game, Brittney Connor of Jewell Excavation tripled and homered during victory.

Baker Construction (5-0) remains unbeaten in 12U competition following a pair of one-run wins. Arby’s and Dana Graphics are a game behind.

Arby’s lost to Jewell Excavating 17-10, Brooke Waymen 3-for-3 for the victors. Dana Graphics edged BNSF 14-12 despite Dany Greger‘s two triples.

BNSF in the 10U League, however, has won five straight and leads four teams by a game. Skylar and Madison Bastin of BNSF each hit home runs in a 13-8 win over Mega Wash. Alyssa Glore added a three-run double.

Summit Electric (4-1) beat McCoy’s 12-1 as Abby Genette and Hailey Wilson were 4-for-4. Jordan Phelan and Paislee Sarff were each 3-for-3.

Emily Cabiad hit a grand slam home run for Greenacres Gypsum, and Tiara Lorentz drove in the winning run during a 10-9 victory over McDonald’s.

Bandits win tourney

The Spokane Bandits swept the Pullman Patriots 11-1, 10-0 during a first-place showdown in the American Legion AAA baseball league, then followed up with championship of the Spokane Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic AAA tournament over the July 4th holiday.

University graduate Tyler Olson pitched a two-hitter during the 4-1 victory over the Coeur d’Alene Lumberman in the semifinals and the Bandits won 3-2 over Twin City capping a 6-1 tournament effort. Titan teammates Billy Moon had two hits during the semifinal win and Danny Jordan two hits in the title victory.

Olson also pitched a two-hitter to win the league opener over the Patriots and had six hits during the doubleheader. Jordan had four hits in the second game, Michael Holmes had three for the pair, including a triple, and Jake Olsufka had two hits in game one.

The Bandits (9-3 in league) dropped Pullman to 7-4.

In AA competition, Central Valley finished second in the Wood Bat Tournament, also with a 6-1 record. CV beat the Coeur d’Alene Loggers 6-3 in the semifinals, but lost 3-1 to Hawaii-Kailua in the title game.

Entering the final two weeks of league play, University (12-2) finds itself atop the South Division of AA competition following a 3-2 win in nine innings win over Lewis and Clark (10-2). Central Valley (14-3), which dispatched another title contender Shadle Park (9-5) 11-3 and 10-4 is near second.

Women’s golf

Liberty Lake 18 Hole – During the weeks of June 17 and 24 club members competed in an eclectic team tournament. Winners of the two-week tourney were Jean Hatcher, Gloria Cash, Marion Jordan and Frances Martin with a combined low net 55. Finishing second were Jeanne Allemand, Honey Conlon and Noreen Sale with 56. Third were Billie Etter, Jan Hussey, Lynda Sahnow and Louise Newtson with 57. This past week was monthly Liberty Cup qualifying and Chrissie Tamura finished with July’s low net of the field. Putting prizes went Etter with 29 in A flight, Connie Hatfield with 28 in B, Lee Sonderman with 30 in C and Myrna Neubauer with 31 in D.

Trailhead Jeanne Allemand continues to lead the way during weekly Ladies Day play. Allemand shot 46 to win A flight and MaryAnne Evans netted 34. B flight winner was Joy Russell with 49, while Iness Walth netted 34. Gail Peters won C flight with 55.

MeadowWood – Work on the greens counted for everything when fewest putts determined this week’s winners. Sue Meyers was first with 28, three better than runnerup Honey Conlon. Noreen Sale took 32, followed by Sharon Schoen and Patsy Lynn with 33. Jean Hatcher, Jan Doege and Ann Eure had 34 and Lee Sonderman 35.

Liberty Lake 9-Hole – Golfers were allowed three clubs of their choice and a putter during weekly competition. On the front nine Sadie Rueckert and Arla Beck shot low gross 60 and Bette Devine netted 38. On the back nine Nellie Auckerman shot 63 gross and Linda Barry netted 39.
