Liberty Pool’s new look under a proposal approved by residents of the neighborhood will be completely different from the rectangular pool that is in Liberty Park today.

The new pool, to be built by the 2009 swimming season, will have recreation features for children and families along with a smaller rectangular section that will have six 25-yard lap lanes. A 1-meter diving board is in the plan.

But the play features will include a beach-like entry suitable for small children, at least one water slide, a water basketball or volleyball area and a water vortex.

An instructional area for lessons is included.

The new pool is part of the 42.9 million park and pool bond issue approved by voters last year.

If two water slides are built, one will have an open flume and the other an enclosed flume.

The shallow “zero-depth entry” area will have a tea cup water play feature and a slide for small children plus other play features.

Plans call for remodeling the bathhouse.
