Toddler falls three stories, breaks leg
A 2-year-old girl pushed out a window screen Monday and fell three stories onto a grassy area below, Spokane Police said. A dispatcher later said the girl broke her leg but was otherwise fine.
Officer Tim Moses said the fall appears to be an unfortunate accident. The family had just moved in to the Serrano Apartments, at 225 E. Wedgewood Ave., on Saturday and was still unpacking boxes. One of the family members had pushed a table next to the window in the toddler’s bedroom, Moses said.
“She crawled up on the table and pushed the screen,” Moses said. “It gave way and she fell three stories to a grassy area.”

Deputies called to home at Gozzer Ranch
Deputies cited a woman for minor in possession of alcohol and are investigating a possible assault at the guest home of the president and CEO of Gozzer Ranch’s parent company after a mother called authorities concerned about her teenage daughter.
Laura K. Hunter told sheriff’s deputies early Saturday that her daughter called and said a man had inappropriately touched her while she partied with friends at Gozzer Ranch, a luxury golf resort on the south side of Lake Coeur d’Alene.
Deputy C.P. Kerzman arrived at a guest home at 6567 S. Gozzer Ranch Road that’s owned by Discovery Land Co. President and CEO Michael Meldman, according to the sheriff’s report. Kerzman ticketed an 18-year-old woman, who works with the alleged victim as a server at Eddie’s Bar and Grill, for minor in possession by consumption. An unidentified person in the house also will be charged with providing alcohol to minors, according to the police report.
Although the girl told deputies she didn’t believe she was sexually assaulted, the sheriff’s department will continue investigating the claim because she admitted someone touched her after she said not to, according to the report.
Erin Dixon, a spokeswoman for Discovery Land Co., said of the incident, “All that really happened is the police came out to check at Mr. Meldman’s home and found, in fact, that nothing had happened.”

Months later, missing canoeist’s body found
The search for canoeist Kieran Erik Norman, who went missing April 18, had long been suspended when the 18-year-old’s body was found Saturday.
His body was discovered in the 9200 block of North Riverside Park Drive by a homeowner checking on his dock. Although Spokane County’s medical examiner has positively identified Norman, the cause of death remains undetermined, Spokane County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said.
Investigators believe Norman tried to canoe the Devil’s Toenail portion of the Spokane River. At that time in April, the water flow was extremely high, Reagan said in a news release.
Searchers found Norman’s canoe April 19 downstream from the Devil’s Toenail formation with a large hole in one of its sides.
