Clerk injured in scuffle over cases of Corona

Staff reports

A 61-year-old convenience store employee was injured early Sunday when he was involved in a scrap with two beer-theft suspects.

Deputies were called to the Millwood 7-Eleven store about 2:20 a.m. by the victim, who had a laceration on his forehead between his eyes. He told the deputies he was mopping floors when two men came into the business and asked him to unlock the coolers, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

The employee said he told the suspects that he could not sell beer after 2 a.m., at which point they grabbed two cases of Corona Beer from a display stand. When he tried to block their exit, the two suspects pushed their way past and a struggle ensued.

The men were able to get out of the store but dropped and broke one of the cases of beer in the parking lot. They were last seen headed west on foot, and deputies were unable to locate them.

The victim described the men as being about 20 years old. He said one wore a white sweatshirt and a white baseball cap. The other had on a light blue shirt. Both had short hair.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 242-TIPS.
