RiverHawks stop Bells on wild pitch
Cody Reeves scored on a two-out wild pitch in the ninth inning Wednesday to give the Spokane RiverHawks a 3-2 win over the Bellingham Bells at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Baseball Complex.
The teams have split the first two games of the three-game West Coast Collegiate Baseball League series. Spokane is 13-15 and the Bells are 13-16.
Reeves singled to center field with one out in the ninth off Gonzaga University pitcher C.J. McClure (2-1). Aaron Headrick followed with a single to left, sending Reeves to second.
Reeves moved to third on a fielder’s choice. The Bells brought in their fifth pitcher, Jordan Stern, who uncorked the wild pitch.
Jake Hiatt (2-0), who pitched a scoreless ninth, got his second win in six days.
Kyle Krustangel’s solo homer to right-center in the fourth, his first of the season, gave Spokane a 2-1 lead.
•Six RiverHawks were named to the WCCBL all-star team, the league announced.
Pitchers Chris Vitus and Hiatt, second baseman Headrick, first baseman Logan Boyd, and catchers Greg Lagreid (Washington State) and Tyson Van Winkle (Gonzaga) made the team.
Lagreid is injured and will not play in Tuesday’s all-star game in Moses Lake.
Golf
The Baker Construction team of Randy Cameron, George Garber, Andrew Zyph and Barry Baker took a one-shot lead after the first round of the Bank of America Pro-Am at the Rosauers Open at Indian Canyon Golf Course.
Hockey
Chris Bruton, captain of the Memorial Cup-champion Spokane Chiefs, has received an invitation to the Calgary Flames’ development camp, Monday through July 26.
Bruton will be one of 30 prospects at the camp, including Chiefs center Mitch Wahl, the Flames’ second-round selection in last month’s NHL draft.
Bruton set career highs of 26 goals and 63 points during the championship season.
