Yankees 7, Athletics 1: At New York, Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer, Alex Rodriguez also connected and the Yankees made it easy for Mike Mussina (12-6), who pitched six effective innings to tie Cleveland’s Cliff Lee and Joe Saunders of the Los Angeles Angels for most wins in the A.L.
Orioles 7, Tigers 4: At Baltimore, Luke Scott homered twice and the Orioles also got home runs from Melvin Mora and Aubrey Huff in a victory over Detroit – Baltimore’s second win in 10 games.
Rays 2, Blue Jays 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Ben Zobrist hit a two-run homer and James Shields allowed one run over seven innings to help Tampa Bay defeat Toronto and snap a seven-game losing streak. Shields (8-6) gave up four hits, two walks and had four strikeouts for Tampa Bay.
Twins 6, Rangers 0: At Minneapolis, Glen Perkins pitched six shutout innings against a powerful Texas lineup in the Twins’ victory, the first time the Rangers have been shut out all season. Perkins (7-2) allowed just three hits to a Texas team that entered the game leading the majors in most offensive categories.
White Sox 9, Royals 5: At Chicago, Jermaine Dye’s two-run single highlighted a six-run first inning that featured seven hits and the White Sox beat Kansas City. Dye went 3 for 4 with a walk, Carlos Quentin homered and Mark Buehrle pitched seven innings, allowing four hits.
Angels 11, Red Sox 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Garret Anderson was 4 for 4 with a solo homer and five RBIs, leading Los Angeles to victory over Boston. Los Angeles’ John Lackey (7-2) allowed three runs and five hits over seven innings while striking out six.
