Soccer gear drive planned
The River City Rockets Girls U14 Soccer Team will be holding a soccer gear donation drive Aug. 1 through Aug. 3, during the River City Cup Soccer Tournament at Plantes Ferry Park. New and used soccer gear is appreciated.
All items received, along with cash donations, will be donated to PASSBACK, a 501c3 organization affiliated with the US Soccer Foundation, MLS Soccer, and EuroSport, who will send the donations to children in need, in the United States and abroad.
Items needed are: soccer jerseys, shin guards, soccer shoes, socks, balls, ball pumps, bags, and goalie gear.

Indians host ‘Pitch for the Cure’
On Aug. 8, Avista Stadium’s second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night will begin at 6 p.m. when the Spokane Indians host “Pitch for the Cure,” a one-mile walk around the Stadium.
To celebrate the evening’s cause, the Spokane Indians will wear pink jerseys, they will use pink bats and pink bases. The jerseys worn by the players will be auctioned off at the end of the game.
Participating in the walk includes a T-shirt, a $10 donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation on the Indians behalf, and a ticket to the game that night.
The registration deadline is Aug. 1. Cost is $20 for adults, children 12 and younger are $15.

Corvettes at Glass on Grass
The Spokane Corvette Club is holding its annual “Glass on Grass” event Friday through Sunday.
Festivities start on Friday with a gathering from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at Camp Chevrolet, at 101 E. Montgomery Ave. All Corvette enthusiasts are welcome.
On Saturday, events move to Riverfront Park. Corvette owners can register their cars between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Registration is $40. The cars will be on display at the park between noon and 4 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be racing at Spokane Falls Community College, starting at 9 a.m.
Any money earned beyond the cost of the event will be donated to Washington State University to support prostate cancer research, Brown said.
