Guinn’s triple keys Indians’ win
Two-run ninth leads Spokane past Everett
EVERETT – Dennis Guinn tripled to right field with one out in the top of the ninth inning to plate the tying run and then scored the winning run on Matthew West’s single to right, giving the Spokane Indians a come-from-behind 5-4 Northwest League baseball victory over the Everett AquaSox Sunday afternoon.
The Indians squandered a 3-0 lead.
Michael Bianucci doubled to score Kyle Higgins in the first inning, making it 1-0.
Spokane (30-10) scored two more in the second on Edward Koncel’s two-run home run to right field.
Brandon Fromm’s home run with one out in the fifth put Everett (16-24) on the board.
Kevin Reynolds’ RBI single with one out in the sixth brought the AquaSox to within 3-2.
Everett scored twice in the top of the eighth to take a 4-3 lead, but it would prove to be short-lived.
Spokane starter Wilfredo Boscan pitched five effective innings, scattering four hits and striking out seven with no walks. He lowered his ERA to 2.52.
Corey Young (1-1) earned the victory despite suffering a blown save and giving up two runs in the eighth.
Juan Peralta came on to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning and earn his fourth save.
Catcher Doug Hogan was 4 for 4 with a double for Spokane.
Dennis Raben was 2 for 3 for Everett and Nate Tenbrink stole his 19th base.
Everett starter Steven Hensley pitched four innings, giving up four hits and three runs, all earned.
The Indians have won two in a row after two consecutive losses and maintain their five-game lead over the Boise Hawks in the East Division standings. Boise (25-15) beat Salem-Keizer 7-5 at Salem, Ore., on Sunday.
Game four of the five-game series is tonight. The series concludes Tuesday. After an off day Wednesday, Spokane opens a three-game homestand against Yakima on Thursday.
