As the victim in an early Saturday shooting recovered in a Spokane hospital, Crime Stoppers of the Inland Northwest offering a reward for information leading to his capture.

Tyson L. Brown, 23, was shot in the stomach during a confrontation at his East Marshall Avenue apartment early Saturday, according to police. He was listed in stable condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon, one day after Crime Stoppers issued a news release asking for help finding him. Five hours later, he was gone, according to a hospital representative.

County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan, who issued the release, said he wasn’t aware Brown was involved in the weekend shooting. He called it “purely coincidental.”

“I just pick people that are mentioned in the intelligence flier as being wanted,” Reagan said. “If they’re the subject of an investigation, especially an investigation from the city, I wouldn’t know about it.”

Police found Brown with a gunshot wound about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses say Gary L. Broadsword, 41, shot Brown after a fight. He remains in the Spokane County Jail on an attempted murder charge.

Broadsword’s son told police his father had been drinking before he left their home at 1873 E. Marshall Ave., then returned saying he had been assaulted by Brown and another man, according to a search warrant filed Monday in Spokane County District Court.

Brown’s harassment charge stems from a December incident in which police say he threatened to kill a man who was carrying a blanket with a Confederate flag.

His five-year criminal history includes convictions for theft, malicious harassment, assault, malicious mischief and robbery.
