Anti-war is pro-life

What a stupid way to run a world! Watching the National Memorial Day Concert, I was struck anew by the horror, the insanity of war. Destroying the beauties of nature and human creativity. Killing and maiming humans. Those dead and broken bodies pictured were someone’s fathers, husbands, sons and brothers. By dehumanizing our armed forces and our enemies, we create hell on Earth.

In 1778, George Washington urged the creation of a military college “devoted to the arts and sciences of warfare.” Ever since then, we’ve been studying war in various military academies: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine. Where is a United States Peace Academy “devoted to the arts and sciences of peacemaking” to bring some sanity to the world?

War is the ultimate pro-life issue. We’ve invented bombs that can destroy all life on Earth and continue creating more. When will we awaken to the horror and insanity of what we’ve been doing to ourselves, other humans and Earth? When will we ever learn?
