Evergreen, Greenacres dominate track meet
It was an Evergreen and Greenacres show during this year’s Vern Fox Spokane Valley Middle School All-League track meet.
The Grizzlies won three of four meets – the girls Class A and boys and girls Class B – and finished second to the Bruins in boys Class A. Greenacres finished second in the other three meets.
For the most part the two schools thoroughly dominated the seven other league participants, particularly in Class B. Horizon finished a competitive third in the Class A races.
Greenacres scored 106.5 points in the boys Class A meet to Evergreen’s 98 and Horizon’s 88. Nick Cutrone led the way winning the 400 in 54.2, the long jump and javelin. He was fourth in the 100 behind winner Brennen Bemis of Bowdish, who also captured the 200.
In boys Class B, deep Evergreen rolled up 142.5 points to Greenacres 111.5. Next highest finisher, Horizon, scored 37. The Bruins won 7 of 12 events, four involving Isaiah Vanvoorhis. He won the 100, 65 meter hurdles and long jump and was on the winning 400-relay team. Evergreen’s Issac Seward won the 400 and high jump. Elsewhere the Grizzlies scored in bunches, one example being the top four finishers in the shot put.
Evergreen nudged Greenacres 102-99.2 in Class A girls, thanks in part to Michelle Nemeth, with Horizon third at 83.6. Nemeth won the 100 in 13.3, 200 in 26.8 and 400 in 1:01.8 and also captured the long jump.
And the Grizzlies Class B girls rolled up 165.67 points to Greenacres’ 114. Katy Dietz won the 100 and 200 and was on a winning 400-relay team. The Bruins’ Skye Sanders won both the 400 in 1:02.9 and 1,600 in 5:39.5 and anchored the winning 1,600-relay team.
