Meeting includes candidates forum
A North Greenacres Neighborhood meeting Thursday will include a candidates forum.
Other items on the agenda are presentations by Spokane Valley Police Chief Rick Van Leuven and Parks Director Mike Stone and a survey on development of a new park in Greenacres.
The candidate forum will feature incumbent Spokane County Commissioners Mark Richard and Todd Mielke and their respective challengers, Brian Sayrs and Kim Thorburn.
Candidates for two 4th District seats in the state House of Representatives also have been invited.
Event organizers said incumbent Republican Larry Crouse is unable to attend, but his Democratic challenger, Linda Thompson, will be on hand.
Candidates for the position being vacated by state Rep. Lynn Schindler also have said they plan to attend. They are Republicans Diana Wilhite, Matt Shea and Ray Deonier, and Democrat Tim Hattenburg.
State Sen. Bob McCaslin, R-Spokane Valley, and his Democratic challenger, Judi Owens, also have been invited.
The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at Greenacres Christian Church, 18010 E. Mission Ave.

Millwood
Annual Classic Cruise today
Classic car aficionados can stop by 8843 E. Trent Ave. in Millwood today for the second annual Millwood Classic Cruise to End Hunger. The Inland Empire Ford Motel-T Club of Spokane is expecting about 100 cars dating back to 1915. All makes and models are welcome, as are motorcycles. The event, a benefit for the Second Harvest Food Bank, will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be live music by The Country Jammers.
The entry fee is $10 per car or $5 and five cans of food. Plaques and prizes will be awarded.
Parade begins West Valley Days
Today is the West Valley Days celebration in Millwood Park at Frederick Avenue and Stout Road.
The 14th annual parade and carnival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. behind the old Suzy’s Restaurant on Trent and travel down Grace to Stout. Activities in the park include bingo, carnival games, live music and more. Several bicycles will be raffled off and food will be available for purchase. New this year is a silent auction.
The event is put on by West Valley SCOPE and is the organization’s major fundraiser.
