Electronics recycling firm acquired

An Airway Heights recycler has purchased Spokane Valley-based Inland ReTech, the area’s primary collector of electronic and computer recyclables.

Electronic Recycling LLC, owned by Donna and Curt Burge, acquired Inland ReTech, founded in 2003 by Dennis Ford.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The combined company will use the name Inland ReTech and work from that company’s offices at 7203 E. Nora, said Donna Burge. The company will have a three-person staff, she said.

In 2007 Inland ReTech collected roughly 165,000 pounds of electronics. That included more than 4,200 monitors, 4,100 computers and more than 33,000 pounds of other electronic products, excluding used TVs.

Burge said Electronic Recycling, which started business in 2006, collected much less than Inland ReTech did in 2007.

Burge noted the company will make a stronger effort to resell quality used computers and accessories to customers as well as recycle.

A number of other companies in the area also pick up or accept drop-offs of electronic products. Several businesses only accept waste products dropped off at their locations.

Inland ReTech will stay open five days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Burge said. In addition to its Nora office, it accepts drop-offs at Computer Business Solutions at 616 E. Third and Computer Station at 509 N. Sullivan.

When dropping off e-waste, individuals pay $5 per monitor and $2.50 per computer or desktop printer. Laptops cost $5 to discard.

Businesses or schools would pay $8.50 per monitor or laptop, and $4 per computer or printer.

Businesses or agencies can request pickups of bulk equipment. Inland ReTech charges the same rates but adds a hauling fee ranging from $7.50 to as much as $25 per load depending on distance and volume.
