Mariners sign 23 draftees to Class A, rookie leagues

SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners have signed 23 of the 50 players they drafted this month, including their choices in rounds five through eight.

Fifth-round pick Brett Lorin, a right-handed pitcher from Long Beach State, joined sixth-round choice Jarrett Burgess, a high school outfielder from Miami’s Florida Christian School, seventh-round pick and Kansas State infielder Nate Tenbrink and eighth-rounder Bobby LaFromboise, a left-hander from New Mexico, as the top rookies to sign.

Also signing so far: Kenn Kasparek (RHP, 12th round), Ryan Royster (OF, 13th round), Jacob Shaffer (OF, 15th round), Bennett Billingsley (INF, 16th round), Travis Howell (C, 18th round), Taylor Lewis (RHP, 19th round), Jordan Alivs (RHP, 21st round), Blake Nation (RHP, 22nd round), Henry Contreras (C, 24th round), Thomas Johnson (C, 27th round), Brad Reid (RHP, 30th round), Nick Love (RHP, 32nd round), Kyle Brown (LHP, 33rd round), Nick Czyz (LHP, 35th round), Chris Kirkland (RHP, 36th round), Brandon Pullen (LHP, 37th round), Andres Esquibel (RHP, 38th round), Christian Staehely (RHP, 39th round) and Donnie Jobe (INF, 44th round).

All are being assigned to either the Mariners’ short-season Class A team in Everett, or their rookie league teams in Pulaski, Va., or Peoria, Ariz.
