The Spokane Park Board delayed a decision Thursday on whether to grant a lease to a group hoping to build a science center in Riverfront Park.

Supporters of the Mobius Science Center fell about $3 million short of a $14 million fundraising target in May, and are proposing a new schedule for raising money for the project. The board said it needed more time to review the new proposal. The center has an estimated cost of $33 million.

The board needs more time “to grasp the entirety of the new, proposed schedule” and consider the best course of action, president Gary Lawton said in a prepared statement.

A man wanted in Kansas for aggravated battery and criminal threats may be in Spokane County, and police are offering a reward for information leading to his capture.

Christopher Robert Abod, 30, is wanted by Riley County Police and is considered armed and dangerous, according to Crime Stoppers.

A reward also is being offered for a North Idaho sex offender who failed to register.

Douglas Greg Dahlin, 47, is wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force for violating his probation by failing to register as a sex offender. He has relatives in Post Falls, but police believe he’s staying at homeless shelters in the Inland Northwest.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tip line at (509) 327-5111 or (800) 222-TIPS. Callers do not have to give their name to collect the reward.

Medical Lake

Man killed in truck accident identified

The man crushed when his truck rolled near Medical Lake Wednesday has been identified as 21-year-old Ryan L. Eley, a Renton, Wash., firefighter.

Eley was found dead about 3:30 p.m. in a sparsely populated area where police think he failed to negotiate a curve at a graveled intersection, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan.

Eley was almost completely ejected from the truck as it rolled, sheriff’s detective Ken Salas said Thursday. Eley was not wearing a seat belt.

The young firefighter’s family lives in Maple Valley, Reagan said. It’s unclear why he was in Eastern Washington.
