Ride raises funds for orphans

Mead Middle School teacher Don Story and his family aren’t taking a typical vacation this summer.

Leaving from Riverfront Park at 9 a.m. Thursday, Story will bike to Yorktown, Va. He and his wife have four children, ages 5, 10, 12 and 14. His two oldest will join him occasionally. The rest of the family will follow Story in an RV.

There is a purpose for the 3,600-mile bike journey. Story is raising money for the African Widows and Orphans Project, an orphan ministry in Africa. Their goal is to improve the lives of the families in Africa.

Story said his goal is to also raise awareness. He will wear T-shirts promoting his cause and display a decal in the window of the family RV. The family has a Web site to mark their adventure, including a link to the ministry and how funds can be donated.

Visit Story’s Web site at storybiketrip.info, and learn more about the ministry at AWOP.org.
